Community
Not The Show…
No, I’m not talking about the cancelled TV show haha.
I’m talking about the CrossFit community.
It’s one of the reasons I don’t mind going into the box 5 times a week. Before, when going to your typical globo or school gym, it’s like…oh shit…I have to do chest and bi’s today…fun…
Now I actually look forward to chatting with random people and having fun together as we get messed up attacking a WOD. Honestly, I just go into each workout accepting that it’ll suck. There’s no doubt about it. I can’t recall any sort of CrossFit workout that was a total walk in the park, unless it’s one of those strength days where you just don’t have it in you. So yeah, I just acknowledge this, and because a whole class of people are getting pwned by a workout alongside you, it’s not as bad.
Word Of Mouth
In a day and age where marketing online is the way to go – social media, hiring businesses that resell SEO (search engine optimization) services, and running banner ad campaigns – word of mouth is how most CrossFit boxes grow and thrive. It’s one of the best forms of marketing out there. Things get even better if other people notice your results.
They always say something like, “Wow, you look great! What did you do?” Then you go on your usual speech about CrossFit and paleo. Am I right? 😛
And it’s not like we’re even trying to sell to people directly with some sort of pitch. The “pitch” just comes naturally cause CrossFit’s legit – the workouts, the results, the people.
Yes, we drink the Kool-Aid, but I can’t see it any other way. All of it has to do with the people. That tight-knit community gives all of us a reason to come back and drop a great deal of cash money on a membership every month. Sure, we can spend that same monthly amount on a year at a globo. However, who would want to go back to that again?
Showing Up Is Natural
It just feels great that showing up to the box isn’t a chore. You no longer feel FORCED to workout. There are just so many great people you look forward to seeing each time that you don’t really think about the ridiculousness of a CrossFit workout.
