Not The Show…

No, I’m not talking about the cancelled TV show haha.

Community Canceled

I’m talking about the CrossFit community.

It’s one of the reasons I don’t mind going into the box 5 times a week. Before, when going to your typical globo or school gym, it’s like…oh shit…I have to do chest and bi’s today…fun…

Now I actually look forward to chatting with random people and having fun together as we get messed up attacking a WOD. Honestly, I just go into each workout accepting that it’ll suck. There’s no doubt about it. I can’t recall any sort of CrossFit workout that was a total walk in the park, unless it’s one of those strength days where you just don’t have it in you. So yeah, I just acknowledge this, and because a whole class of people are getting pwned by a workout alongside you, it’s not as bad.

Word Of Mouth

In a day and age where marketing online is the way to go – social media, hiring businesses that resell SEO (search engine optimization) services, and running banner ad campaigns – word of mouth is how most CrossFit boxes grow and thrive. It’s one of the best forms of marketing out there. Things get even better if other people notice your results.

They always say something like, “Wow, you look great! What did you do?” Then you go on your usual speech about CrossFit and paleo. Am I right? 😛

And it’s not like we’re even trying to sell to people directly with some sort of pitch. The “pitch” just comes naturally cause CrossFit’s legit – the workouts, the results, the people.

Yes, we drink the Kool-Aid, but I can’t see it any other way. All of it has to do with the people. That tight-knit community gives all of us a reason to come back and drop a great deal of cash money on a membership every month. Sure, we can spend that same monthly amount on a year at a globo. However, who would want to go back to that again?

Showing Up Is Natural

It just feels great that showing up to the box isn’t a chore. You no longer feel FORCED to workout. There are just so many great people you look forward to seeing each time that you don’t really think about the ridiculousness of a CrossFit workout.

That Feeling Of Hopelessness

Jabba The Hut Status…

Coming from a three week break, it’s just hard getting back into CrossFit. My weight gain and sluggishness make me feel like crap during every WOD. I went from 5 WOD’s a week to 3 to gradually get back into the swing of things. It just sucks.

Full Of Excuses

At times, I’ve blamed things on how I ate and didn’t do any physical activity while I was away. Whatever, I had a great time visiting family and it was a really eye-opening experience. I don’t regret it. Now, I should just accept that I’m really out of shape and do whatever is necessary to become the athlete I’m meant to be.

And in reality, the only person I can blame is myself, right?

Sometimes, I just want to say something to the coaches, but that’d just be more excuses coming from me. It’s a way of procrastination and spreading negativity. Instead of saying negative things, I’m gonna DO positive things so I can get back on track.

Do You Know That Feel, Bro?

I Know That Feel Bro

After only a few pull ups. After only a short string of burpees. After the first set of power cleans. It’s like you go from a full tank to nothing at all.

I learned my lesson: do SOMETHING, ANYTHING the next time I’m on vacation for a long period of time. Even if that means some squats, burpees, and push ups before taking a shower. It’s better than nothing.

We’ve all felt this low point for some reason. The only thing you can do is rise above all those obstacles in your way. It’s rather easy to fall off track as well. Oh, you’re already out of shape, so it must be okay to have that Five Guys burger, huh? Your body is STILL pretty sore, so it’s okay to miss another day or two at the box this week?

Unfortunately, such thoughts have been invading my mind the past two weeks. All we can do in times like these is be “Unscared”.

Just keep showing up your 3 to 5 times a week or whatever you do. It won’t be an instant comeback, so you need to keep chugging along.

Be Unscared

That’s what I’m gonna do. So what are YOU gonna do? Sink or swim?

I’m gonna swim. Let a lot of waves hit me. Take in some water. Regardless, I’ll get onto a level of fitness I’ve never achieved before.

Welcome to KippingItReal.com!

The (Soon-To-Be) #1 CrossFit Blog And Info Source

So this is it! After owning this domain name for over a year, I finally got myself to build this site out. Of course, it’s a work in progress, but all I wanted to do was get a basic layout finished and just write stuff for you all.

Yes, I claim this to be “The #1 CrossFit blog and source for CrossFit info” because it will be. Trust me 😛

There are so many great things about CrossFit on the internet, but there really isn’t that ONE definitive source for everything. For example, I’m always asked where I pick up certain things, like pull up grips. There have been several times I’ve pointed people over to AgainFaster.com for those. I’m sure there are other people out there who want to find out more on this awesome sport as well. So why not point them here?

So Why Start This CrossFit Blog?

I want to be able to give back to the community somehow. CrossFit really changed my life…and I’m not meaning to sound corny or anything. It’s just the truth. A few years ago, I tried it out at my campus gym in college with a buddy of mine (he’s now the head coach of the box in his area), and I was hooked. Sure, I sucked with a 20 minute Fran, but I couldn’t get enough of this.

Then in my senior year of college, I wanted to sign up for a local box and experience the real deal. While I’m dropping some good cash every month on my membership, it’s definitely worth it. I got into the best shape of my life, met some really awesome people, and had a blast in the process.

Also, I’ve always been into blogging. Since high school, I’ve been writing some personal blogs and actually got a decent readership (*cough*…only 100 views in a day lol) then I stopped once I got to college. Now, I want to get back into it. I saw the opportunity in CrossFit, the sport I love. Of course, there’s the official main site and various blogs out there that are quite entertaining. However, nothing really caught my eye.

That’s where KippingItReal.com comes in.

I Also Need Some Motivation

Last month, I went away to visit family out of the country for a few weeks. It sure was a great time, although my health went downhill from there. With the lack of physical activity and the constant eating with relatives, it’s no surprise I’m so out of shape right now. The past two weeks of WOD’s have been TERRIBLE. An absolute nightmare.

There’s a lot of that mental game going on, although I’ll touch upon that in tomorrow’s post.

Basically, I’ll also be using this blog as motivation to get into better shape than I was when I first joined the box. For me, it’s pretty easy to show up five times a week at the box. My only issue is with my nutrition. I love to eat haha.

Then again, what kind of credibility would I have if I ran a CrossFit blog and was simply a keyboard jockey like this?

That’s why I need to whip myself back into shape and shoot for long-term results. So who’s with me?

KippingItReal.com Is For All You CrossFitters

Every day, I see people on Facebook and Twitter post all sorts of CrossFit stuff. Sadly…no one really cares or gets it. Am I right? I’ll be posting multiple times a day on here, and hopefully a lot of you will post some comments. Why? Cause people reading this blog and browsing this site will actually care. That’s what CrossFit’s all about.

The people.
